Surroundings

You may visit a lot of monasteries from Leh with a bus or hitch-hiking: to the south, Thikse close to the road and further Hemis , larger and well-known for the sacred festival at the beginning of july. To the west Alchi is one of the oldest(may be not restored)with unusual paintings as standing buddhas .The buildings are among an irrigation system and iris flowers.
